Location: Northwest Louisiana | Anyone knowledgeable about old Rossi Revolvers? I recently posted this in the Rossi Revolvers section of the Taurus Firearms Forum. You can still hear the crickets chirping in the deafening silence from those experts. Here goes on this forum... M88 or M885??? Can anyone explain to me the difference between a Rossi M88 and M885? I have seen references to both models and I cannot determine any clear difference between the model numbers. In fact, it seems to me that both model numbers are used almost interchangeably in the various online forums and auction sites. A noticible difference is the presence or absence of a shrouded ejector rod, although the model numbers seem to be applied by many with no regard to shrouded ejector rod. Earlier this year, I purchased a nice used Rossi 5-shot stainless revolver, 2-inch barrel, chambered in .38 Special. The paperwork on the sale (local pawn shop, FFL) identified the revolver as a 'M88.' The frame is stamped under the crane pivot with both 'M88' and 'M885,' with the 'M885' in slightly larger font. The crane is stamped '6513,' which I believe is a manufacturing number of some kind, perhaps used to keep major components together during assembly. The '6513' is also stamped on the frame under the stocks, on the inside of the lockplate, on the rear of the cylinder (in addition to the 'I'), and is also marked in pencil on both the left and right wooden stocks. The 6513 number is not contained in the serial number in any variation. The ejector rod is recessed in a full lug under the barrel. The revolver is an Interarms-Alexandria, VA model (pre-Taurus), and manufacture date is unknown. The Tyler T-Grip is the only modification. Photo133.jpg |

Bang Bang Location: The South | I own an older Rossi but don't know a whole lot about the guns. I did learn my model number by entering my serial number at the Rossi website. Consider contacting them directly. |

Location: Northwest Louisiana | The present Rossi Corporation only deals with those models imported by Braztech International. Rossi products imported pre-Braztech era (i.e. Interarms) seem to be in the dark ages, even though that only began in late 1997. |

Location: SC | I purchased a Rossi 357 in 1997, and while it was very accurate it was a POS. Timing was off, causing it to lock up in SA and DA. I will never purchase another one, buy American-buy Ruger. |

The numbers .308 are the caliber of your rifle, not the model number. Please include the model number and serial number to get the age of your Winchester rifle.
It is likely that a Savage Model 22 rifle does not have a serial number. Serial numbers were not required by law in the US until 1968.
There is no serial number, the rifle was made before serial numbers were used, Mossberg did not commonly use serial numbers, when they did use them it was like for the model 44's etc. as military trainers.
Yes, the Sears Model 54 was made by Winchester and used the Winchester Model 54 serial numbers. Your serial number puts the rifle at being made in 1930 or 1931.
The make and model of the rifle need to be known before an answer can be given. Serial numbers are not unique to a single firearm.
Your Sears model 54 is a Winchester model 1894 rifle that was made for sears. If Winchester used the same serial number sequence as their serial numbers for the Model 1894,then your rifle was made in the year 1955.
$300--$550, depending on exact model and condition
Need to know the make and model of the rifle before the question can be answered. Serial numbers are not necessarily unique to one firearm.
Impossible to answer without knowing the model of the rifle.
There are no serial numbers on the model 510s. serial numbers weren't required until 1968 the model 510 was last produced in 1962. There is however a date code on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver.
If you have a model 62 slide action(you do not give the model number)? Then these were made and imported between 1988-1998.
There are no serial numbers on the Winchester model 72. It was produced from 1938 until 1959 with an approximate production of 161,000.
Virtually impossible to answer, especially without even knowing the make and model of rifle. Serial numbers are not unique to one firearm.
Serial numbers were not required before 1968. Try looking on the receiver.
Your Model 62A was manufactured in 1953 -'Spider'
With the serial number that you have provided, your Winchester model 74 rifle was made in either 1954,or 1955.Winchester skipped many serial numbers during this time span.
Double check the serial numbers. No 1873 sn has a 'b' at the end.
Impossible to answer. Model 1906 serial numbers go from 1 - 708824.
Impossible to answer. Serial numbers are not unique to only one gun in the world.
Serial numbers are usually on the left side of the barrel near the breech (loading port)
If you are unable to locate a serial number on your .22 rifle, chances are it was manufactured before 1968. Until that time, .22's were not required to have serial numbers.
Winchester never choose to record the serial number by year of production for this model of rifle.I can say that the model 77 rifle was made from 1955-1963.The serial numbers began at Number 1001 and ran thru serial number 217,180.I would safely assume that your rifle was made in the 1950,s with the serial number provided. UPDATE: Your rifle was manufactured in 1958. 1958 started with serial 55135. 1959 started with 73513.
You need to re-check which the model number ofyour rifle. The Model 72 is a bolt action gun and they were not given serial numbers.
The first 2 numbers of your serial number indicate when it was made.In this case your Marlin rifle was made in the year 1971.
Your Winchester model 74 rifle was made in the last year of production, which was 1955.That year many serial numbers were skipped at the Winchester factory but all were in the 400,000 serial number range.
What is the value of a Model 62 Winchester .22 rifle with serial 21072
With the serial number that you have provided;your Winchester model 1886 rifle was made in the year 1894.
After 1932 Winchester decided to choose random serial numbers for the model 1890 pump action .22cal rifles. This process continued on until the last rifles were made in 1941.Total production reached 762,215 rifles, but the serial numbers ranged as high as 849,100.Your rifle falls into this group. So your rifle was produced sometime between 1932-1941.
There is no way to tell from the information you have provided. A serial number is NOT unique to your gun. It may be unique to THAT make and model. Thus you could have a Winchester Model 70, and a Winchester Model 100, 2 very different rifles- but BOTH could have the same serial number. If it were not so, serial numbers would now have at least 50 numbers.
Your winchester model 1890 .22cal.pump rifle was made between 1932-1941.During those years winchester chose the serial numbers randomly.Your serial number falls into the serial number range they used.
The model 64 Winchesters were serial numbered in the Model 1894 serial number range of numbers. With the serial number that you have supplied, your Winchester model 64 rifle was made in the year 1938.The model 64 rifle was made from 1933-1957.
You have listed the model number of your rifle, not the serial number.
With the serial number that you provided, your Marlin model 1897 rifle was made in the year 1906.
With the serial number that you have provided, your Winchester model 1894 rifle was made in the year 1899.
Your Remington model of 1917 rifle was made in November of 1918,with the serial number that you have provided.
The model number is typically on top of the rifle above the trigger. usually it says 1938. As for the serial number, Red Ryder's usually don't have serial numbers because they are mass produced, but you will find a 'LOT' number assigned to the rifle.
the early 500 series Remington 22 cal rifles did not have a serial number. I believe serial numbers were required after 1968
As a long time collector and shooter I believe that .22 cal rifles and shotguns of all guages are not required to have serial numbers. Model numbers and manufacturers names will appear as well as calibers , but no serial numbers. JS
That all depends on when your rifle was made. These model 131 Winchester rifles were made between 1967-1973.The gun control act of 1968 mandated that serial numbers be placed on all firearms. If yours was made during 1967-1968 then it was not required to have a serial number.
The Winchester model 55 rifles were some one of the few rifles made by Winchest er to have serial numbers of their own,and also have them listed with the model 1894 rifle production serial numbers.Yours happens to be one of the rifles made that lists its serial number in the model 1894 range of numbers. With the serial number that you have provided, your Winchester model 55 rifle was made in the year 1928.The Winchester model 55…
Made 1943 to 1947, records are unavailable for these years on the model 94, your serial is in this range.Actually your Winchester model 1894 rifle was made before Winchester discontinued their records during World War II.Your rifle was made in the year 1941.serial number 1,238,585 was the start of the serial numbers in 1941 and ended at 1,287,468.
We can't tell without the serial number- but if you go to the Ruger website, under Customer Service, you can see the year of manufacture for serial numbers. You will need the spefic model of your rifle.
